Turn me on – Niyola

2010-05-24

Eniola Akinbo ,popularly known as Niyola is a contemporary r n b singer whose major influences since childhood are Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston ,Christina Aguilera, Nat King Cole and Beyonce to mention a few.

Listening to the likes of these great artistes always kept her dreaming of one day being in their shoes and to a large extent has affected or helped to create and find her own style of music.

Born on the 9th of December  in Lagos  Nigeria ,hailing from Ilesha in Osun state, the last born of a conservative Christian family of ten found her love for music as a child  as early as age 8. Encouraged by her art inclined father, young Niyola started writing songs of her own by writing choruses for  morning devotion  as her dad had instructed and poems  to express how she felt.

Turn me on – Niyola

After emerging first runner up  at the year 2000 Amen Starlet competition and Circle of stars in the year 2003 it wasn’t long before she started singing for Sound Sultan ,and Baba Dee then later joined Dha trybe and left shortly. After which  she decided to take on a solo career and with “Make sum noiz” entertainment                released her first single  “Me n U” (in dha club) featuring Freestyle Dha shogun .On seeing the response ,the songstress didn’t hesitate to record further and collaborate with  Faze of WESTSIDE Music Inc.

In 2005, Niyola got a record deal with Westside Music Inc and  a management deal with started recording her debut album. The first single “Bring it On” was released that year.   A second single “Call my name” was later released with a video to follow up before the final release of the debut album in December 2007 after which the contract expired.

The self titled 16 tracker album “Niyola”  featuring OJB Jezreel , Pype and “Freestyle Dha shogun “emphasised her unique style ,a fusion of  r n b with pop  and interestingly including her native language, yet making sense to all and sundry.

Her message is one that’s positive ,especially centred around empowering the female  by using her experiences either directly or indirectly in her writing either in a movie soundtrack or in her own songs.

She is presently working on a new album which is tagged DOTH COME (.com), an album that will awaken the minds of every one who comes across it.
