Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has set up a Presidential Advisory Council on the formation of policy for his administration.
The omnibus council, which will advise Jonathan on virtually all areas of governance, is to be chaired by former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, while prominent constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, will serve as Deputy Chairman. (more…)

Nigeria too strong for Spain in the last semi finals

Hosts and Holders Nigeria thundered through to beat Spain 3-1 in the semi-final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Lagos. The Spaniards never quite looked up for the contest, a re-play of the 2007 final, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, as the Golden Eaglets continue to improve with every outing here on home soil. The Africans will now face Switzerland – who beat Colombia 4-0 in their semi-final – in a tantalizing grand final in Abuja. (more…)

Debutants Switzerland rolled right over ten-man Colombia in their semi-final in Lagos, winning out by a comfortable 4-0 scoreline. The South Americans had become renowned for their big comebacks here at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009, but there were to be no late dramatics against a highly disciplined and organised Swiss outfit at the Teslim Ablogun Stadium. Spain picks a semi final ticket

Spain made heavy work of beating ten-man Uruguay in their quarter-final in Kaduna, losing a 3-1 lead and requiring a penalty shoot-out to finally book their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009. The Uruguayans showed tremendous spirit fighting back from the deficit, but in the end it was a road too far for the homeward-bound La Celeste. (more…)
