Wizkid Wins MOBO Award For Best African Act!

Fast rising Nigerian pop sensation Ayo Balogun better known as Wizkid has won the award for ‘Best African Ac’t at the 2011 edition of the MOBO Awards!

Wizkid’s win has come as a huge surprise as he beat African entertainer D’banj and Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti to the prize. Other nominees in the category inlcude Cheikh Lo, Fatoumata Diawara, Liquideep, Owiny Sigoma Band, Smod, Spoek Mathambo, and Vieux Farka Toure.

Wizkid was quick to tweet about his surprise win. ‘#TEAMWIZKID we did it!!..now let’s get the EMA!!!!…God bless every1 dat voted!!!…wow!!!’, @wizkidayo tweeted

Guest presenters on the night included Chipmunk, Olympic medallist Philipps Idowu, Fazer of N-Dubz and ex-Sugababe Keisha Buchanan.

‘The excitement and atmosphere of our second year here in Glasgow has shown the love that the whole country has for MOBO. We felt so welcome the first time we came here, we didn’t think it could be topped. This year has been a phenomenal success and we can’t wait to return in 2013‘, Kanya King, CEO and Founder of MOBO said after the show.

The awards show was broadcast live on BBC3 and was hosted by pop act Jason Derulo and English singer-songwriter, dancer, model Alesha Dixon.

Miriam Mwangi known as "Mimi" started her singing carrier and has been a music lover since as early as 12. Born in a beautiful country called Kenya. Which she was raised there until the age of ten and later on moves to live abroad in the UK. She is an upcoming artist, very passionate with singing. The desire to be something other than what you are will impede your ability to grow therefore, her career in singing began in church, which her talent began to shine through. Mimi enjoys the sensation of the pleasure of music making and the amount of pleasure that music brings.

Music has personalities, which can express what people feel, Emotions are very interesting things, especially when they involve music. Furthermore, in 2011, Mimi got into the studio and began recording her first single “AN ANGEL”. Produced by O.Y, as this was her first time recording professional, she always knew that music is where her heart belongs. Right now Mimi’s singing skills and confident with the influences of other artists, has grown in a wider range, her passion for music deeply developed, even though music has been part of her life.

Mimi is currently a student at London College of Fashion. Studying fashion design, she’s a fashion enthusiast and believing music causes great influence on a person’s choice of clothing and appearance.
