Lars Lagerbäck is new Nigeria coach
2010-02-27 at 01:32 pm administratorThe Nigeria Football Federation has finally named former Sweden coach Lars Lagerback as the new coach of the Super Eagles.
The Swede’s contract will be for an initial five months and he will be expected to deliver at least a semi-final finish at the World Cup in South Africa.
Lagerback is said to have impressed the Nigerian officials with his knowledge of the country's football problems past and present, from when his Swedish team defeated the Super Eagles 2-1 at the World Cup in 2002.
Lagerback resigned from coaching the Swedish national team last year after failing to take them to South Africa 2010. He will be assisted by Nigerians Austin Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi and Alloy Agu.
Former England boss Glenn Hoddle had been in the running for the position, but lost out to the Swede.
