Following the sack of Shaibu Amodu at the weekend, former Russia national team boss, Guus Hiddink, has been picked as the coach who may guide the Super Eagles to the South Africa 2010 World Cup in June.

London-based FIFA-licensed agent, Kingsley Onye, disclosed to SoccerStar that the ex-Chelsea handler is in a vantage position to grab the Super Eagles plum job.
The ex-Nigerian international described Hiddink as one of the best coaches in the world, saying if feelers coming from top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is anything to go by, Hiddink would emerge as Nigeria’s new coach.

“Hiddink is the hottest property in Europe,” Onye began in an exclusive telephone chat with SoccerStar from London.” “At the moment and the good news that he is free to work for Nigeria. I’m in touch with him and he has declared his readiness to be at the World Cup. He is just unfortunate not to have qualified Russia for the World Cup.

He is a Dutchman and he is used to black people so he won’t have problem working with our team. Believe me, Hiddink will perform miracles with Nigeria because he will take us to the World Cup semifinal or final. Did you see the miracle he performed with Chelsea?” Onye asked rhetorically. He continued: “If we do well at the World Cup, all the big countries will invite us for friendly games just like we saw after our feat in USA ‘94 World Cup. It will fetch more money for Nigeria so there is no amount of money we spend on him that will be a waste.”
It would be recalled that Hiddink took one of Nigeria’s opponents at the World Cup, South Korea, to the semifinal of the 2002 World Cup.

Onye also mentioned little known former England coach, Peter Taylor, as another likely candidate favoured for the Eagles job. “I know Peter Taylor in and out because he is a close friend of mine in England. He may not be as popular as the other contenders but you cannot rule him out. Don’t be surprised if the NFF decides to offer him the job. He is a silent contender for the job.”
The NFF technical committee has penciled down Bruno Metsu, Guus Hiddink, Ratomir Dujkovic, Louis Van Gaal and Peter Taylor for screening at the end of this month. Three out of the five names would be subsequently recommended to the NFF executive committee for final selection.
