SULCATA Entertainment is a business outfit registered in Nigeria under the Company and Allied Matters Act 1993. Its main trust of business is Event Management, Artiste management, Record label and Promotions. The company intends to expand its area of interest subsequently. Sulcata’s major guiding philosophy is creativity and professionalism which it is poised to blend in order to offer a unique brand with outstanding competitive value in the market. The goal decisively takes precedence over every profit interest in the outfits operation.

SULCATA Entertainment an entertainment outfit consisting of five founding members presently schooling in the University of Lagos, they include,

The primary motive of this entertainment outfit is to harness the musical talents within the university environment by creating a bridge between musical icons from all genres of music who actually passed through the university and the present students who are in any way inclined to the musical field which is in tune with the rules and regulation of the university governing council of creating an enabling environment in which students are well equipped in all spheres of life positively.

Finally, the entertainment industry is a very diversified field in which the programme of work are enormous, at SULCATA Entertainment group, we also deal in all nature of art design and musical studio works for upcoming musical talents and also making three dimensional animation works.

UNILAG’S FINEST MIX

The Unilag’s Finest Mix is compilation compact disc, comprising of the finest selected songs from undergraduates of the University of Lagos, which could be of any genre.

It will be achieved through a selection process between these stages:

* Nov 16 - Jan 27                 Pre mini-show stage

* Jan 28                                Mini show

* Jan 29 - Feb 04                  Post mini-show stage

* Feb 05 - Feb 25                 Pre final show stage

* Feb 25                                Final show

* Feb 25 - Fade          Post final show

WHAT WE WANT TO DO

The primary aim of Sulcata Entertainment outfit in staging this event in the university environment is to expose musical talents of the students and to extol Unilag alumni in the entertainment and motion industry, which is executed by producing a compilation of musical works from all genres of music made by Unilag undergraduates (akokites) for akokites and the entire nation from the student perspective. This primarily helps in creating a link between the alumni association and the present university student who are making any form of meaningful progress in the musical and art related fields.

OBJECTIVES

Staging an annual musical and art related programmes which will help in producing upcoming musical talents in the school by creating a level playing field for them to exhibit their talents.

To showcase the musical and artistic make-up of the institution with all genres of music, creating an enabling environment for upcoming gems of the entertainment industry in the university and preparing them for the challenges in the open market, thereby promoting established and up-coming musical talents within the university community.

To celebrate past (alumni) and present (undergraduates) University of Lagos students in the musical and art oriented industry.

Creating a Unilag oriented musical mix which helps the student’s in tune with the musical talent within the university community.

Producing a number of musically talented artists from the university annually and a compilation compact disc.

HOW WE WANT TO DO IT

On staging this event, a formal letter of approval has been obtained from the Dean of Student Affairs, University of Lagos, which is in the form of a formal document, giving a stand that SULCATA Entertainment outfit has been given the formal rights as the official organizer of the tagged event (Unilag’s Finest Mix).

The ‘Unilag’s Finest Mix’ will be in the form of an all audio music compilation compact disc of selected best 15 songs of all genres made and owned by current undergraduates in the university community.

In executing this event, media houses will be contacted as a means of creating the enabling publicity for the event.

At the inception stage, the primary motive behind staging such events are outlined which in turn serves as a means of awareness which is publicized in the whole of the university (which has already begun), this is generally complemented by the submission of recorded songs of all interested participant on obtaining their participation form which is primarily done on the bases of no charge activity.

The recorded song of each eligible participant will be submitted at different designated locations within the school and they generally include,

Chinese restaurant, (Newhall).

Shawarma (Amina Hall).

The deadline for the submission of the artistes demo compact discs is on the 29th of January 2010 which must be strictly adhered to.

All musical compact disc from all genres of music collected will be screened by musical professionals, from which the best 25 songs are selected. After which a mini show will be staged in the open grounds of New Hall on the 4th of February 2010.

During the mini-show, panel of judges are invited to re-assess the 25 songs initially short-listed based on the performance of the artiste. Each participant is given a stipulated  of time to perform their song that have been selected for the event, this will also create the necessary awareness for the final show and also to make the student’s more familiar with the musical talents within the school.

However during the mini show with assistance of the judges and the general participant opinion, the number of artistes will be reduced to a total number of 15, who will eventually make up of the final ‘Unilag’s Finest Mix’.

After the mini show, a limited amount of original copies of the mix will be released and marketed at a subsidized rate within the University community. This compact disc will act as a pass into the main event (final show), which will be on the 25th of February 2010. The limited amount of original copies of the mix will be in form of a mini magazine, in which the pages will contain the profile of the artistes, profile of the company, aims and objectives of the project, profile of the alumni and publicity for the sponsors and supporters.

The main event is scheduled to be held within the University of Lagos community on the 25th of February 2010. The presence of the invited alumni of University of Lagos in the entertainment world will spice up the event and even the performances by them, as they will be receiving recognition awards on that day. Other important dignitaries and companies will be invited on that day such as music marketers, record labels, management teams, media houses, video editors, producers and so on. This will help in creating a cordial relationship between the alumni’s musical icons and the present University musical artist and also help to encourage all undergraduates with the success story of the celebrated alumni. This will also help to expose these artistes to the media and to the world.

The sponsors of this event will benefit greatly from this event as there will be lots of publicity executed. Such publicity includes: fliers, posters, banners, press conference, radio hype, radio jingles, TV adverts, the Unilag’s Finest Mix compilation compact disc (which will be in form of a mini magazine), the official project magazine (which will be released at the end of the project), publicity shirts, and so on. The sponsors would also be given the opportunity to showcase their products to the students which will in turn be the reward for the trust they have invested in the event.

SUMMARY & CONCLUSION

“Unilag’s Finest Mix” is a compilation compact disc of 15 selected songs from students of University of Lagos which could be of any genre, and the event also takes into cognizance the celebration of University of Lagos alumni in the entertainment industry.

It is a series of selection process which starts with the submission of compact disc by the artistes at collection points in school, to the mini show where the screening process is done and the songs are reduced to 15 which makes the compilation compact disc and the final show where the alumni are celebrated.

The final compilation compact disc takes the form of a mini magazine packaging with pages on Sulcata entertainment, the sponsors, the alumni, and the artistes that made the selection process, which gives a full description of the project as a full and incisive package.
