Amodu replaces Eneramo with Ogbuke
2010-01-05 at 12:25 pm administratorA twist of fate has seen Chinaedu Obasi Ogbuke make the final list of players who would do battle for Nigeria at the 2010 Nations Cup scheduled to begin this weekend in Angola.
According to Abdul Zaki Ibrahim, Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) assistant media officer, Coach Amodu Shaibu decided to replace Michael Eneramo with Ogbuke because of his goal-scoring abilities, especialy in their Sundays friendly match against a South African championship side.
He said it would have been injustice for Ogbuke to have been sacrificed for any other player because of his commitment and proficiency in the current season.
It was further gathered that Dele Adeleye and Adefemi Adebayo had been recalled to make way for some injured players who made the final list released by Amodu last weekend.
But in a sharp reaction, Super Eagles' Media officer, Peterside Idah, told Daily Sunsport that no decision as regards the inclusion of Ogbuke into the final squad had been taken by the technical crew, stating that Amodu only placed Ogbuke on standby .
He further said that Eneramo is still in camp and dismissed the recall of Adefemi and Adeleye.
He also said that Obafemi Martins had regained full fitness to do battle for Nigeria and asked doubters to wait and see him in action when hostilities begin this weekend.
“ As I speak with you Eneramo is in training with the rest of the team. Coach Amodu has drawn the final list and that is final.
Sentiments cannot take us anywhere and I pray that Nigerians respect the decision of the technical crew.
Adefemi and Adeleye have been discharged from camp and by now they must have returned to their base.
Meanwhile, NFF yesterday submitted the final list of the Super Eagles that would represent Nigeria at the competition to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
