Timi Dakolo is the inaugural winner of Idols West Africa.
Growing up in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria, music has always been a part of him, as he started on this musical journey at the age of 12, singing in church. Eventually he formed a quartet in 2003 with his childhood friends named Purple Love. They became quite popular touring the club circuits, and gaining some fame. The group was short lived though, as they disbanded in 2005 to attend college.
Timi attended the University of Port-Harcourt, majoring in Communication. However, a year later, he auditioned for Idols West Africa, and was crowned the winner. His victory completely altered his life, fulfilling his life long dream. He has had the privilege of gracing magazine covers, performing at regional and international award shows, attending red carpet events and mingling with other celebrities.
His debut singles were all instant radio smash hits, and chart successes, as the media seemed not to get enough of him.
In 2009, a handful of artists recorded a theme song for “Inspire Africa”, the proceeds directly invested in the plight of Africa. Timi was among the participating recording artists which included 2face Idibia, Banky W, M.I, Sasha, Tosin Martins, and others.
He recently switched record labels, and is excitedly looking forward to his new label home, and the new opportunities ahead.
